Gauteng records over 400 malaria cases, 11 deaths


Malaria cases are rising across southern Africa. South Africa has also seen a seasonal uptick, including in non-endemic provinces like Gauteng. In the first three months of this year, the province recorded over 400 cases and 11 deaths. Most infections have been carried from endemic provinces or travel outside the country. While malaria is preventable and treatable, early testing and treatment remain critical for all returning travellers with symptoms.
