Four white rhinos find a new home in Mexico as part of a global conservation program
Four white rhinos will remain in quarantine after being relocated to Mexico as part of a conservation effort led by the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria.
“While the annual number of rhino deaths has decreased since the last peak reached in 2015, poaching remains the greatest threat to these animals, with white rhinos, in particular, being the most affected,” the foundation said.
“The grandchildren of these rhinos could, through this program, one day repopulate the African grasslands they once inhabited,” said Luis Soto Rendón, the director of the Guadalajara Zoo.
