Former Riverhead Teacher Sentenced for Soliciting Nude Images From Minors
A former Riverhead High School teacher has been sentenced to three years in state prison for soliciting nude images from underage girls online.
Ryan McCaffery, 38, of Ridge, posed as a teenager on Snapchat, contacting hundreds of accounts belonging to underage girls, sending explicit photos of himself and requesting nude images in return, prosecutors said.
McCaffery previously taught social studies and coached junior varsity boys soccer at Riverhead High School.
During sentencing, the judge said the three-year sentence was “quite frankly, not enough,” telling McCaffery, “You’ve been given a gift.”
McCaffery pleaded guilty to two felony counts. His New York sentence will run concurrently with a separate five-year prison sentence in New Jersey.
