Former Israeli prime ministers unite to oust Netanyahu at next election


Two political rivals of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have announced they will combine forces ahead of an election to be held later this year.

Former prime ministers Naftali Bennett and Yair Lapid will merge their parties into a single faction that will run in October’s election.

Bennett and Lapid previously formed a coalition government that survived just 18 months before Netanyahu was re-elected in 2022.

SBS World News spoke with Eyal Mayroz, a senior lecturer in Peace and Conflict Studies at the University of Sydney, about their decision.
