Former Israeli military officials help Palestinians harvest olives in the West Bank
A group of senior Israeli ex-military officials gathered near the West Bank village of Qusra to help Palestinian farmers harvest olives.
Eyal Ben-Reuven, a former major-general, said he began organising a group of around 30 senior military officials several months ago in response to a spike in settler violence that many Palestinians said was enabled by the Israeli military.
The Israeli military has said it condemns violence and it operates to maintain security in the West Bank.
Nimr Nazzal, the owner of the land where the senior military officers gathered, said that without them, it would be impossible for him to access his olives due to settler attacks.
Israel has occupied the West Bank since 1967, but in recent years the number of illegal settlements in the Palestinian territory has soared.
Excluding East Jerusalem, more than 500,000 Israelis live in settlements in the West Bank, home to around three million Palestinians.
