‘FIFA would be making a terrible mistake’: Trump backs Gianni Infantino amid calls to resign
US President Donald Trump is backing FIFA President Gianni Infantino despite growing calls for him to resign.
“FIFA would be making a terrible mistake if, for any reason, they even considered replacing President Gianni Infantino,” he said in a post on Truth Social.
“He is fantastic, having just presided over the most successful World Cup, by four times, ever presented. If he is gone, it will never be as successful or profitable again.”
This comes after the soccer governing bodies from Europe, North America, and Asia jointly said Mr Infantino’s failed commercial proposal for the World Cup was a “fundamental breach of trust”.
