FIFA has scrapped $20 billion World Cup sell-off plan
The New York Post reports FIFA is scrapping a plan to sell a stake in World Cup commercial rights to private investors following pressure from global football bodies.
A senior adviser to FIFA President Gianni Infantino resigned with immediate effect overnight in protest of the President’s proposal to sell a stake in the World Cup.
The Asian Football Confederation, UEFA and CONCACAF rejected the plan and called on FIFA to review its governance.
Football’s governing body was aiming to sell a 20 percent stake valued at $28 billion.
US President Donald Trump has denied any involvement in the FIFA proposal.
