Family’s struggle to register for social packages
The Expanded Social Package is a municipal policy designed to provide free basic services, including water and electricity, to households that cannot afford them.
But in communities such as Noldick and Sicelo in Midvaal, Gauteng, residents say strict requirements and administrative hurdles are preventing vulnerable households from accessing this support.
They allege the policy excludes those who need it most, while some councillors argue municipalities are failing to adequately inform residents of their rights.
