Face The Nation | Mkhwanazi subpoena decision/PSC on SETA investigation/SAMRO & Artists on royalties

Parliamentary Ad Hoc Committee chairperson Molapi Soviet Lekganyane says Mkhwanazi was not refusing to appear before the Parliamentary ad hoc committee, and was granted a request to be excused in order to first appear at the Madlanga Commission.

Lekganyane says the committee will wait for Mkhwanazi to come and appear before the committee and says he will be subpoenaed should he refuse to appear before the ad hoc committee.
He says it may not be possible to complete the inquiry on deadline.

Public Service Commission chairperson professor Somadoda Fikeni says once they’ve completed the report on SETA investigation they will, where there are negative things inform the Minister who will then apply his mind.
Fikeni says the PSC is able to subpoena witnesses and bring matters before the courts where necessary.

Artist and composer Mzwakhe Mbuli says unclaimed artists’ royalties have been embezzled by SAMRO.

South African Music Rights Organisation ceo Annabelle Lebethe says a forensic audit was conducted and found that R60 million was claimed for royalties and R30 million was paid to the artists.

It was discovered that R3,4 million of the disbursed amount was irregularly paid out. The remaining R30 million is still held in the SAMRO account.
