Ex-relatives of slain Hong Kong model admit to body disposal, deny murder

Hong Kong’s High Court has discharged a recently empanelled jury from the murder trial of former relatives of slain socialite Abby Choi Tin-fung. The development came after one jury member asked to be excused for health reasons. The move has delayed the trial of the 28-year-old’s death, whose body was disposed of in a village house in Tai Po district in February 2023. The court announced the decision on Monday, when the prosecution was originally scheduled to present its opening statement. A new jury will be empanelled on Wednesday. Choi’s former husband and brother-in-law had pleaded guilty on Thursday to the illegal disposal of her dismembered body. They are set to stand trial along with their father on murder charges in the high-profile trial.
