Ex-Merrick Doctor Has Paid $0 of $1.6B in Abuse Judgments
A former Merrick pediatrician ordered to pay $1.6 billion in sexual abuse judgments to 104 women has not paid a single dollar, according to attorneys representing the survivors.
Stuart Copperman, 91, was found liable by default in 2023 after failing to defend himself against lawsuits alleging he sexually abused patients when they were children.
A Newsday investigation found that Copperman transferred his ownership stake in a Melville home to his wife just days before New York’s Child Victims Act took effect in 2019.
Attorneys are now working to identify his assets and recover money for the survivors, who say they are still waiting for accountability.
