EU blames online disinformation and smuggling networks for Ceuta migration surge

The European Union says it believes disinformation on social media and people smuggling networks were responsible for last week’s mass crossing of migrants from Morocco into Spain’s North African exclave of Ceuta.

Spanish authorities now estimate around 72,000 people entered the territory.

70,000 have since been returned, while the death toll from the incident has risen to 75.
