President Ramaphosa must now decide.
Nine people have been killed in two Western Cape mass shootings in two days. Five died and a woman was wounded in Gugulethu on Monday, (https://www.enca.com/news-top-stories/five-dead-cape-town-house-shooting) while four people were killed and four injured in Kayamandi, Stellenbosch, on Sunday night.
Alan Winde and acting Police Commissioner Luyanda Damoyi visited Philippi East after police seized 51 firearms last week. Despite lower quarterly violent-crime figures, community safety volunteers in Marikana say they remain unsafe.
South Africa has rejected an International Criminal Court petition (https://www.enca.com/news/we-have-working-institutions-lamola-after-2-ghanaians-take-sa-icc) by two Ghanaian nationals alleging attacks on foreign nationals amount to crimes against humanity. International Relations Minister Ronald Lamola says the application is legally baseless.
Cabinet will consider border upgrades and a new fence. More than 70,000 undocumented foreign nationals have been repatriated, while Gift of the Givers has served 155,000 meals at Beitbridge in 28 days.
National Treasury is reviewing submissions on draft procurement regulations aimed at strengthening oversight, accountability and anti-corruption controls.
In other news we’re keeping an eye on, Iran says it will halt attacks on US military bases if Washington maintains its pause after 13 nights of airstrikes. The DRC has confirmed more than 3,000 Ebola cases, 1,354 deaths and vaccines in clinical trials.
SPORT
Banyana Banyana open their Women’s Africa Cup of Nations campaign against Tanzania, with World Cup qualification also at stake. The Proteas beat Tonga 96-42 in Commonwealth Games netball and face Northern Ireland next. Pieter Coetzé won a second swimming gold (https://www.enca.com/sport/pieter-coetze-claims-second-gold-sa-swimmers-shine-commonwealth-games) and set a Games record, while Aimee Canny took silver and Olivia Nel bronze as Team SA reached nine pool medals.
And finally, Lando Norris claimed his first Formula One win of 2026 at the Hungarian Grand Prix, the 12th victory of his career.
