The ANC’s NEC meets as 2017 vote-buying allegations return. Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma’s claimsresurfaced after Ronald Lamola threatened legal action. Fikile Mbalula says the party will respond, while Zamani Saul says money still buys influence and the Veterans’ League wants one-member, one-vote elections.

In KwaZulu-Natal, the ANC says political motives may be behind the killing of councillor Sibusiso Khwela. The 4 November local election date is now proclaimed, and NATJOINTS says police are ready for security threats.

The voters’ roll closes at midnight. More than 400,000 young people registered, but 18- and 19-year-oldsremain the least registered group.

School violence is under renewed scrutiny after 19-year-old Siboniso Landela died following an alleged assault at Vusumuzi High School. Four suspects have been arrested, while his family alleges a cover-up.
In Gauteng, a pupil is in hospital after an armed robbery at an Alexandra school, while shots were fired outside Waverley Girls High School during an apparent hijacking.
In the Western Cape, a Grade 10 pupil at Bellville South High School died after a classroom attack. Officials want broader interventions, including more extramural activities.
Justice Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi has denied knowledge of political interference in apartheid-era crime prosecutions at the TRC Cases inquiry.
