Eastern Cape drought-stricken areas welcome heavy rainfall

While the recent floods caused widespread devastation across parts of the Eastern Cape, the heavy rainfall has also brought significant relief to drought-stricken areas.

Dam levels across Nelson Mandela Bay, Kouga and Makana have surged dramatically following days of persistent rain.

Combined dam levels supplying Nelson Mandela Bay reportedly increased from around 39% to more than 76% within days, with the Kouga, Churchill, Groendal and Loerie dams now at full capacity and overflowing.

The Impofu Dam has also overflowed for the first time in years.
