Donald Trump is in Beijing to secure a ‘big win’ as Iran conflict looms large | The Business

Donald Trump has met with China’s President Xi Jinping as he begins his three-day visit to China. The US president is accompanied by CEOs of major US companies, including Tesla and Space X boss Elon Musk, and Nvidia’s Jensen Huang.  A former White House staffer and now The Asia Group senior adviser Mira Rapp-Hooper says the US president is hoping to come home and announce some big wins from this trip including China’s purchase of Boeing planes and American agricultural products. But she says it’s important to note China has always been a big buyer of American agricultural products despite the tit for tat tariff fight of 2025.
“We should apply a discount factor to anything that’s announced in Beijing because it may just be the resumption of business as usual,” she said.
She also says China has rolled out the red carpet for the US president, and analysts in the US, like herself, are watching to see what Beijing will want in return for this warm welcome.
“(We’re) watching closely to see if President Trump will make additional concessions on US export controls of semiconductors or on policy related to Taiwan.”
