Democrats Flip 5 Long Island Seats in 2026 Election | NewsdayTV
Democrats flipped five State Senate and Assembly seats on Long Island in Tuesday’s election, expanding their majorities in Albany.
The party picked up two Senate seats and three Assembly seats across Nassau and Suffolk counties, giving Democrats 16 of Long Island’s 31 state legislative seats.
Statewide, Democrats regained a supermajority in the Senate and are expected to expand their Assembly supermajority, giving them enough votes in both chambers to override a governor’s veto.
The results mark the largest Democratic legislative majorities in New York State history, according to state Democratic leaders and political observers.
