Decline in number of South Africa’s birds of prey
A recently published study from the University of Cape Town has confirmed fears of conservationists around the decline of South Africa’s birds of prey.
The study revealed widespread long-term decline.
The research, based on 16 years of road survey data collected across central South Africa, found that several raptor species have declined sharply, including the endangered Secretary Bird.
Researchers say the findings are raising serious conservation concerns and highlight the importance of long-term monitoring.
