‘Dangerous escalation’ in the Strait of Hormuz

The United States and Iran have admitted to firing at each other in the Strait of Hormuz in the sharpest escalation since a fragile ceasefire was agreed in the Middle East war.

US President Donald Trump said in a social media post that they had destroyed seven “fast boats” belonging to Iran. He said Iran had “taken some shots” but caused no harm apart from damage to a South Korean vessel.

Meanwhile, Iranian state media has released footage of what they say are several warning shots fired around “enemy vessels” in the Strait of Hormuz. The footage has not been able to be independently verified.
