Congress Honors Children Lost in Louisiana Shooting

U.S. lawmakers observed a moment of silence for eight children killed in a shooting in Shreveport, Louisiana, which police say stemmed from a domestic dispute. House Speaker Mike Johnson called the deaths of the children, ages 3 to 11, an act of “senseless, unspeakable evil,” while Senator Bill Cassidy said the attack shattered the fundamental trust between parents and children.

Authorities identified the gunman as Shamar Elkins, who allegedly killed seven of his own children and another child, and wounded two women who remain hospitalized. Investigators are still determining what led to the violence and whether Elkins died by police gunfire or suicide after an exchange with officers.
