Conference of the Left calls for economic reforms
The SACP sponsored Conference of the Left has called for sweeping economic reforms. This includes the nationalisation of the South African Reserve Bank, state-led industrialisation, and expanded public ownership of strategic sectors. Over 300 delegates from 12 political parties, civil society organisations, youth and women formations argued that mass unemployment, poverty and inequality are the result of an economy driven by profit rather than needs. Addressing the media in Boksburg on the Gauteng East Rand, Chairperson of the Conference Steering Committee and SACP General Secretary, Solly Mapaila says the Conference condemned outsourcing in favour of insourcing.
