Collagen supplements aren’t backed by strong science. Try this instead.


Supplementing with collagen has become increasingly popular in recent years, with brands claiming it can boost nail, skin and hair health.

But there isn’t strong evidence behind these claims, says Dr. Trisha Pasricha, a physician at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, an assistant professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School and The Washington Post’s Ask a Doctor columnist.

There are, however, at least two things you can do that are backed by plenty of research.
