Coalition pledges to double Australia’s fuel reserves

The Coalition is pledging to double Australia’s fuel reserves, committing $800 million to boost storage in a pre-budget challenge to Labor.

Opposition Leader Angus Taylor says his plan would lift stockpiles from 30 to 60 days’ supply, bringing Australia closer to international targets.

He is also vowing to keep the country’s two remaining oil refineries operating.

The Coalition’s announcement coincides with Foreign Minister Penny Wong’s blitz to Southeast Asia this week to shore up more fuel supply by leveraging some of Australia’s critical minerals to secure shipments.
