China bans seductive chatbots and closes AI gap with U.S. | You&AI
AI race just got far more interesting. A new Chinese AI model called Kimi K3 breathes down the neck of the best American models, and does it on the cheap.
The release coincided with Xi Jinping’s speech on the technology – the Chinese characteristic being the open-source nature of Beijing’s offerings (Kimi K3 is also open-source). All this points to the Chinese feeling very confident in their AI efforts–and using the tech for another iteration of the evangelion of global cooperation.
But even if Beijing treats AI as a frontier new technology, it does not want any funny business with it. Hence chatbots seducing people are now banned in China.
You don’t want your people hooked on machines if you’ve got a demography crisis on your hands.
