Child Protection | KZN police probing suicide of 12-year-old
A month dedicated to protecting South Africa’s children, but in one community north of Durban, Child Protection Month has been overshadowed by tragedy.
This after a 12-year-old boy allegedly died by suicide in the presence of his four-year-old sibling at their home in Riet River in Verulam.
Police in KwaZulu-Natal have opened an inquest and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the boy’s death.
His death has sparked outrage in the community, where residents say poverty, neglect and a lack of social support continue to place vulnerable children at risk.
