Spain has said it will deploy its military after confronting scenes emerged of scores of migrants coming ashore in one of its overseas territories overwhelming local authorities.
Thousands of migrants have entered the Spanish city of Ceuta by sea in recent days, officials said on Thursday, with local television images showing them swimming around the frontier and running into the town.
The city of Ceuta is Spanish territory but is an exclave, physically separate from the Spanish mainland. It is located across the Mediterranean on the North African coast surrounded by the sea and Morocco.
Migration from Morocco into Spain’s two North African territories, Ceuta and Melilla, has long been a politically sensitive issue between the two countries for many years.
