Cabinet approves two-stage reform of AUKU, amendments to be tabled in Dec
The government will begin a two-stage reform of the Universities and University Colleges Act 1971 (AUKU), with amendments to existing provisions expected to be tabled in Parliament in December before a new law replaces it in 2027.
Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil said the Cabinet had approved proposals by the Higher Education Ministry to remove provisions restricting students’ freedom of expression and association, while developing a new law to govern and administer universities.
