BREAKING: Iran Launches Missile Attack On U.S. Fighter Jet; Pentagon CONFIRMS Strike On Qeshm Island
A direct US-Iran military confrontation has erupted around the Strait of Hormuz, with a senior American official cited by Axios saying Iranian forces fired an anti-aircraft missile at a US military aircraft before Washington retaliated on Iranian territory. According to the US account, the IRGC launched the missile from Qeshm Island while the American aircraft was operating around Hormuz. The US jet was not hit. An American military aircraft then struck the alleged launch position and destroyed the surface-to-air missile launcher in what the official described as self-defence. The confrontation is especially sensitive because Qeshm sits beside the narrow Hormuz shipping lanes and comes as Washington and Tehran continue exploring indirect diplomacy over the wider conflict and restrictions on the strait. After weeks without a direct military encounter, an Iranian missile launch and an American strike on Qeshm have again demonstrated how quickly military escalation can overtake diplomacy.
