Iran-backed Houthi rebels on Sunday claimed they shot down a Saudi military reconnaissance drone over Yemen’s Al Jawf Governorate, just one day after announcing missile and drone strikes on Saudi oil facilities in Jizan. Houthi military spokesperson Brigadier General Yahya Saree said the group downed a Turkish-made Bayraktar Akıncı armed reconnaissance drone while it was carrying out what he described as “hostile operations.” Saudi Arabia has not publicly commented on the claim, and it has not been independently verified. The reported incident follows renewed cross-border attacks after the Houthis said they targeted Saudi energy infrastructure in response to Saudi airstrikes on the strategic Red Sea port city of Hodeida.
