BREAKING: Blanche clears hurdle as Cornyn, Tillis back AG confirmation

The two Republican senators holding out on advancing Todd Blanche’s nomination for Attorney General appear ready to move it forward through a Senate panel vote. Outgoing Senators John Cornyn (R-TX) and Thom Tillis (R-NC) held up the Senate Judiciary Committee vote, demanding written confirmation that President Donald Trump’s Anti-Weaponization Fund was officially dead as Blanche had promised at a hearing in June.

Blanche, who has been serving as Acting Attorney General following the ousting of Pam Bondi from the lead role at the Department of Justice, posted Sunday night on X to say he had issued an order to terminate the $1.8 billion fund, created to compensate those who, Trump said were unfairly prosecuted by the Biden administration, including those charged in connection with the January 6 breach of the U.S. Capitol to protest Trump’s 2020 election loss.
