Border Chaos Leaves Moroccan Returnees Hungry and Allegedly Beaten
Moroccan migrants returning from Spain’s North African enclave of Ceuta said hunger, lack of shelter and violence were among the reasons they left. Hundreds crossed back into Morocco through border posts and gaps in the fence after Spanish authorities said a massive surge of more than 50,000 migrants had largely been reversed, with most returning voluntarily. Officials said dozens died during the rush, including people who drowned or were crushed while attempting to cross the border barriers.
