Australia’s fastest man you’ve never heard of | 7NEWS

Eddie Nketia, a 25-year-old sprinter, ran 100 metres in 9.84 seconds at a US college meet, breaking Patrick Johnson’s 23-year-old Australian record of 9.93 seconds, though an illegal tailwind means it won’t count officially. Born in New Zealand and raised in Canberra, Nketia switched allegiance to Australia in 2023 after becoming the fastest Kiwi sprinter in 2022, and now competes for the University of Southern California. The unconventionally built athlete, who previously played American football at the University of Hawaii, aims to qualify for the Commonwealth Games and eventually the Olympics alongside fellow Australian sprint stars Lachlan Kennedy and Gout Gout.
