Aung San Suu Kyi advisor raises fears after prison transfer of former Myanmar leader | ABC NEWS
Myanmar state media says the detained former leader, Aung San Suu Kyi, has been moved from prison to house arrest. The 80-year-old Nobel laureate has been held in detention since she was removed from office in a military coup in 2021.
Australian economist Sean Turnell, who was jailed in Myanmar in 2021 alongside Aung San Suu Kyi, served as her economic policy advisor. He says the military is using her release to try to improve its image as it faces criticism over human rights, election fraud and economic collapse.
