ANCYL dismisses calls for Ramaphosa’s head
The ANC Youth League has dismissed growing calls for President Cyril Ramaphosa to step down, describing them as nothing more than political opportunism.
Opposition parties and civil society movements have urged Ramaphosa to resign in order to protect the integrity of the presidency, following last week’s Constitutional Court ruling on the Phala Phala matter.
The court found that Parliament’s 2022 decision not to adopt the Section 89 panel report was irrational and invalid, effectively clearing the way for a new parliamentary process to probe allegations against the President.
Addressing the nation last night, Ramaphosa said resigning would amount to pre‑empting a constitutionally defined process and lending credibility to what he called a flawed panel report.
