“An EMBARRASSMENT!” – DA Protests As Suspended EMPD Chief Mkhwanazi Faces Murder Charges

DA Ekurhuleni mayoral candidate Khathutshelo Rasilingwane MPL led a fierce protest outside Brakpan Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 13 August, calling suspended EMPD deputy chief Julius Mkhwanazi “an embarrassment to the City of Ekurhuleni!” Mkhwanazi and four co-accused appeared for a bail application in connection with a murder case, but the controversy extends beyond the courtroom – he’s been SUSPENDED for 11 months yet STILL employed and on the municipality’s payroll! Rasilingwane questioned his suitability to hold public office while facing serious criminal allegations and demanded action from the City. DA members staged a picket demanding accountability and warning that the disciplinary process has dragged on too long. Should officials facing murder charges remain employed? The DA says NO!
