Advocates call to improve support for young carers
Nearly 400,000 Australians under the age of 25 provide unpaid care for family members living with a chronic, mental illness, disability, or other medical reason for providing care.
Experts say the actual number could be much higher.
Research from non-profit Little Dreamers found more than one in three young carers miss school every week, with many reporting missing assignments or needing to turn them in late and impacted grades.
Advocates are calling for better measures to identify young carers and further funding for programs to support them.
