ABC boss reveals Bluey fail amid fallout from billions in lost royalties

ABC boss Hugh Marks has voiced his frustration over the broadcaster’s fumbling of the international rights to Bluey, revealing it would not have taken a “huge sum of money” to clinch a deal.
The infamous arrangement, which saw overseas rights go to the BBC and may have cost the public broadcaster up to $2.5 billion per year, has become a national sore point as Aussies struggle to get over the lost revenue from the homegrown smash hit show.
It’s a sentiment shared by Mr Marks, who has repeatedly mentioned the massive missed opportunity in recent months.
It was “not necessarily easy to see” that the show would turn out to be so lucrative, Mr Marks told the ABC’s own Alan Kohler this week in an interview that was partly defensive, but also hinted at regrets.
