Stats SA observes a surge in online gambling: Makashule Gana

Technology has impacted many facets of society and revolutionised many industries. The gambling industry is not exempt, with brick and mortar casinos seeing a decline in patrons while online bookmakers have seen a boom in business. In its recent report on the personal services industry, Stats SA observed that bookmaker and online gambling services experienced a rapid surge in income between 2018 and 2023. Political party has sounded the alarm around, what it calls, a runaway gambling crisis. Rise Mzansi’s National Assembly caucus whip, Makashule Gana, joins us for more.
