Hong Kong’s Chief Executive John Lee and other senior officials from his administration formally apologised for the city’s deadliest fire in decades at the beginning of a press conference on Thursday. Lee announced that housing secretary Winnie Ho was being held politically accountable for last November’s blaze at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po, and that she had resigned on Wednesday. Lee then introduced a number of actions and reforms his administration would implement in response to a scathing report by an independent committee that investigated the Wang Fuk Court tragedy. The government received the report last week and released it to the public on Thursday.
