Criticism from Trump could backfire and strengthen Zelenskyy | News in Depth
President Zelenskyy is in Oslo for talks with U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff before the latter travels to Moscow for a meeting with Vladimir Putin. In News in Depth, Stuart Dowell, Political Editor at TVP World, argues that the talks are a Ukrainian initiative aimed at regaining diplomatic momentum while maintaining contact with Washington and strengthening cooperation with Europe.
According to Dowell, Europe is equally determined to remain at the negotiating table, given its central role in supporting Ukraine and any future security arrangements.
At the same time, Putin is reportedly seeking a trilateral meeting with Donald Trump and Xi Jinping, a move that critics fear could revive great-power politics and discussions about spheres of influence. Dowell also notes that relations between Kyiv and Washington have deteriorated in recent weeks, while Trump has openly suggested that someone other than Zelenskyy should negotiate on Ukraine’s behalf.
Join Ashim Kumar and his guest as they discuss Ukraine’s diplomatic offensive in Oslo, Europe’s bid to remain relevant in peace talks, the prospect of a Trump–Putin–Xi summit, and the growing tensions between Kyiv and Washington.
