US President Donald Trump ordered the Pentagon to reduce annual joint military exercises with South Korea on the day they were supposed to start, saying that Seoul won’t help the US in its ongoing war against Iran. He also cited his “very good relationship” with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un as a reason to scale back the drills. Jenny Town, a leading expert on US-North Korean relations, told DW that Trump’s last-minute change of plans likely won’t be taken very seriously by Pyongyang.
