The Flood: The amazing story of HMAS Dechaineux
In 2003 an Australian submarine, HMAS Dechaineux, came within 20 seconds of being lost when it suffered a catastrophic flood while operating deep in the Indian Ocean.
Its crew of 60 were very quickly fighting for their lives as 1,000 litres of water a second came gushing into the Collins-class sub.
The event, which was largely covered up at the time, changed the way our Navy operates.
Cameron Stewart joined Sky News Australia as The Australian is set to launch the first episode of a podcast series ‘The Flood’ which explores this amazing story of human resilience and coming together.
