Nawrocki’s relationship with U.S. counterpart is his “Trump card” | News in Depth
June 1 marks one year since Karol Nawrocki was elected Poland’s president. The conservative head of state, constantly butting heads with the liberal centrist government, has at least one thing going for him: his apparent friendship with his U.S. counterpart.
“He’s been developing that relationship with Donald Trump since before the election. That’s (…) his, let’s call it a trump card,” said Stuart Dowell, TVP World’s Political Editor, but added that Nawrocki’s influence on the U.S. president is limited, citing the planned slashing of U.S. long-range capabilities in Europe.
“So politicians on the government side will be asking: ‘What’s the benefit of a thousand more troops in Poland when all the equipment that they might be able to use in an emergency is going to be taken away?’”
Join our host, Marie Kato, and her guest as they examine what Nawrocki achieved–and what he failed to achieve–in the year since he was elected.
