Rescuers safely evacuate first of five trapped in Laos cave
A man who had been trapped in a cave with four others for more than a week has been safely evacuated by rescue divers.
The group had entered the cave in Laos’s central Xaysomboun province to mine for gold last week when flash flooding and a landslide triggered by heavy rain blocked their exit.
Authorities were alerted by a villager who managed to escape.
Rescue workers located the group on Wednesday. Two others remained missing.
