Thousands of people gathered to “worship” Australian artist James Angus’s cactus sculpture in Perth, in a bizarre display of “free, easily accessible, wholesome fun”.

The viral event started off as an off-handed joke but quickly gathered interest, with attendees saying it “brought people together in a funny kind of way … bonding over something ridiculous”.
