Probe into Merlin Group widens | ED conducts fresh searches across Kolkata; IT carries out own raids
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has conducted fresh raids across Kolkata, intensifying its probe into the Merlin Group over alleged illegal land deals and financial irregularities.
Multiple locations linked to the real estate firm and associated individuals have been searched under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. Investigators are examining allegations of land grabbing, forged ownership documents and investor fraud.
The probe also covers properties linked to other individuals and entities connected to the case. Earlier searches had pointed to a suspected pattern of acquiring land using fake documents and routing funds through real estate projects.
The investigation stems from an FIR filed earlier this year, with agencies continuing to track the money trail and verify ownership records.
