$100 million fines for petrol price gouging
Treasurer Jim Chalmers has doubled the maximum fine for petrol price gouging to $100 million for any retailer looking to rip off motorists during the war.
Chalmers made the announcement in a joint release with Climate Change and Energy Minister Chris Bowen and Assistant Minister for Productivity, Competition, Charities and Treasury Dr Andrew Leigh on Wednesday night.
The trio said they were “putting petrol companies on notice” and wouldn’t stand for “big corporates treating Australian consumers like mugs”. #petrol #oil #iran #middleeast #pricegouging
