US Federal Reserve cuts interest rates by 0.25 per cent

The US Federal Reserve has cut interest rates by a quarter of a per cent for a second time this year.

The reduction takes the benchmark rate to a range of 3.75 per cent to 4 per cent.

A weakening of the jobs market and inflation at 3 per cent means the Fed may not cut rates again this year.
