Red Sox players sign autographs for fans outside Fenway Park after facing the Pirates

The most popular place to be after Red Sox games? On Van Ness Street, waiting for autographs.

Deep into the night following each home game, when Fenway Park has emptied and the neighborhood has grown quiet, hundreds of fans still linger behind metal barricades lining the players’ parking lot.

One by one, players exit the clubhouse in street clothes and head to their cars as fans cheer, shout their names, and press for autographs from feet away.

The players’ lot has long been a quirk of Fenway, with the space constraints of a 113-year-old ballpark necessitating that players park on a street corner in public view. But this year, the crowds outside the lot have swelled, serving as a curtain call for the players as they head home.
