Heavy Downpours | Some NMB communities left without water and electricity

Over two weeks ago, Kariega and the broader Nelson Mandela Bay Metro were severely affected by a slow-moving cut-off low-pressure system, with some areas recording more than 226 millimetres of rain in under 24 hours.

The heavy downpours, coupled with strong winds, caused rivers to burst their banks, flooded roads, uprooted trees and damaged critical infrastructure.

While the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro continues with mop-up operations, many residents remain frustrated over prolonged outages of basic services.

Some communities in Kariega have now been without water and electricity for nearly two weeks.
